The sailing mechanics are based on real world physics and mechanics. Together with our modular and customizable Raft Building system it opens a brand new world in ocean based survival games. Sailing is about mastering the physics of the wind, the water and of the floating object, in our case the raft.
The entire sailing mechanic can be simplified by using the easy or medium difficulty in-game. In easy or medium difficulty settings the player can use basic sailing mechanics, where drifting caused by wind or streams are ignored.
When playing on hard settings the sailing will use more advanced physics and functionality for a more immersive and realistic sailing experience. Travelling by raft is an act of art and Escape The Pacific offers a great challenge for experienced sailors. Wind, Sail, Rudder and Knowledge is all you need.
Sail - Gets the raft moving. Is influenced by wind. Heavy storms can destroy or blow them away. Different sail types offer different sailing behaviors.
Rudder - Steers the raft the old fashioned way, for old school lovers.
Like in real life, when you want to sail into any direction, you need wind from behind. The below image is showing different scenarios based on wind direction, moving direction and no-sail zones.
For hardcore sailors we recommend sailing ‘against’ the wind in a ‘zig-zag’ pattern. Attention is to be paid when doing this, and turn the sails manually in the correct position relative to the wind.
